Travel Day-Septebmer 26, 2010

That's a real sea otter! It's near the middle of photo, head on left side.

View of Monterey Bay

Cannery Row. It's called cannery row because this was a place were sardines were processed and canned. Do you like sardines?

Here are your cups sitting in the airplane seat next to me on our way out to California.

Hi Everyone,
It's Sunday and I traveled from Boston to California with the cups. I arrived in Monterey around 6PM Cape Cod time. Tomorrow, I'll be at the ship working and will take more photos to post to the blog. The ship leaves for our field site on Tuesday morning.

You may be wondering what exactly I'm doing out here for research. I'm going to be looking at the seafloor sediments at depths ranging from about 1500-3000 meters to make sure the sediments look like they have healthy biological communities (worms and other animals). We have a very special camera to use and I'll show you pictures of it and the kinds of photos it takes later this week.

More tomorrow!
