Computer Lab Day

Hi Everyone,

It's a cloudy, cool, and foggy day here on the ship. What is your weather like today?

  1. Hi Mrs. Neubert!! We were very excited to see how much the cups shrunk. We noticed that they filled the bag before going into the water and they barely took up any space when they came out of the water.

Some students even found their own cup in the photo.

How long was the rope that sent the camera and cups down?

  2. Our weather is rainy and windy here but very HOT!

  3. The rope that sent the cups to the seafloor was over 2 miles long. Can you believe it? Imagine walking from Woods Hole to where the bike path crosses on Locust St. (where the little parking lot is located). That's a long rope!

  4. I'm glad it is not hot here because it can be very hot out on the deck of the ship. There is no cover and the sun would be very bright. I forgot to mention that we had a sea lion follow us around last night while we were working. It was very cute.

  5. That is very long!! Other questions:

    Did you see any sharks?
    Did you see any whales?
Can you bring home a starfish?
    How big is the boat?
What time did you put the cups in the water (we noticed it was dark)?
What have you been eating on the ship?

  6. I have not seen any sharks.
I have seen a humpback whale
I can't bring home a starfish because we leave them to live where they like it best, on the seafloor. That's why we're taking photos. We won't have to bring home animals.
The boat is 165 feet long, maybe about as long as two school buses, togehter.
I put the cups in the water around 3AM (or 6AM Cape Cod time). They came back around 5AM (8AM Cape Cod time).
I have been eating a lot of food. We have our own cook and she makes us breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yesterday, I had spaghetti and sauce with garlic bread for dinner. This morning I will have oatmeal for breakfast. I had an ice cream sandwich around 2AM with my coworker Russ.

  7. I will take a photo of my dinner tonight and post it to the blog so you will be able to see what I'm eating. When you come back to computer lab after the weekend there will be many more photos. I can't wait to see you after this trip and bring you your cups!
